Coming Out Of The Woo Closet
When you first encounter Raya Ma’at, the creator of Living In The Light, it is clear that you are speaking to a woman of uncommon presence. It isn’t surprising to hear that she spent the last 18 years devoted to an important and rewarding career consulting in K-12 education, including working for the Obama administration at the US Department of Education.
Her passion? Equity in education for all children, regardless of zip code or background.
It is important and well-paying work, but this is only a piece of Raya’s contribution. As valuable and fulfilling as this work is, education is not the full extent of the work Raya was put on this earth for, and she knew it.
Raya’s journey to her higher calling began more than a decade ago.
Amid a challenging year that included a diagnosis of depression and anxiety. Raya began reading, exploring, and sharing her journey publicly on a blog she called Living In The Light—which ultimately became the name of her current business.
Her explorations and writings were focused on her journey of coming out of the darkness of depression and anxiety, and her pathway into the light. She used her blog to share her experiences along with the daily practices that were leading (unbeknownst to her) to her eventual freedom and awakening.
Raya had already been on the path of learning, exploring, and experiencing an energetic connection to her guides. She began accumulating wisdom and training in spiritual life coaching, Reiki, and other modalities, exploring all the ways she might figure out her path and how she could be of service to the world. But she was still holding back.
It was clear that her journey was resonating, with over 20,00 followers and growing, Raya knew she was onto something. She also knew she needed some sort of larger container to hold her as she moved toward the work that was calling her.
All of this was laying the groundwork for the growth that led her to Dec 12, 2012, a night that would ultimately change everything.
Raya’s Awakening
Most of us may have been focused on Dec 2012 as the Mayan calendar’s predicted end of the world. But for Raya, the date 12/12/12 actually marked not an end, but a whole new beginning—one she calls her personal awakening.
In her words, “Everything came in all at once.”
Raya’s experience on 12/12/12 —which included seeing her angels and guides and receiving messages from beyond this realm—was entirely beyond anything she could have expected. After that life-changing night, her calling to learn as much as she could and share her experiences to help as many people as possible along the way strengthened exponentially.
However, although she was learning and growing, she still wasn’t expressing this knowledge openly. This began to feel frustrating for Raya. It was as if she was living a lie—only able to be her true self in smaller groups.
Raya’s upbringing in a conservative Baptist church left her to wrestle with a lot of fears around expressing her newfound sense of spirituality, which was unheard of in her family and community of people. Everyone she knew had a Christian lens through which they saw the world, leaving Raya with a significant amount of worries about expressing her spiritual growth. This kept Raya playing small, but it didn’t stop her.
The biggest incentive driving her forward despite all that could have kept her stagnant? Raya’s deep desire to break free of her fears and to release herself from all that held her back from her full expression.
The Game Changes
Just as these thoughts and desires were becoming fully formed, Raya encountered Danielle, who was a guest on a podcast called Quantum Conversations, for the first time.
This chance encounter proved to be a game-changer. That day, as Raya heard Danielle channel Thoth for the first time, she felt an immediate and undeniable connection.
Much like people describe when they meet a soul mate, Raya says she just knew…
“I just wanted to learn from her, whatever she’s doing. Something was calling me to her. I signed up for her newsletter and started getting the Energy Transmissions every month, that alone was powerful.”
Soon after, Raya signed up for Divine Light Activation. Which was the beginning of a major shift in her ability to finally stepping fully into herself.
A Blessing In Disguise
Raya was all set to take the next step and travel to France with Danielle and the Divine Transmissions team for Divine Light Activation when a personal disaster struck in the form of a major basement flood.
Suddenly, Raya’s big solo travel plans were replaced with the logistics of major home repair, a husband under huge work pressure, and children that needed her in the midst of the chaos. As the member of the family who worked from home, she was the only one available to take on the additional and unanticipated demands.
Already torn about leaving her kids, and facing all the conflicting feelings that mothers can feel when contemplating leaving their families for an extended period, Raya made the difficult decision to remain at home, and participate via what Danielle calls bi-location (remote energetic participation to the LIVE program and catching the audio replays).
That, as Raya describes it, ended up being a powerful blessing.
“I really felt the connection of all of the transmissions as they were happening, as well as the locations the group visited. It was like I could feel the shifting energetically in my body, even though I was getting the recordings after the fact.”
This experience helped Raya fully understand that she was beginning to live from a higher place and that the work she had been doing implementing the Divine Transmissions teachings was taking root in her being.
All of it was helpful and each step provided a new piece of the puzzle, leading Raya to begin leading spiritual retreats, which she still does today.
Raya loves the experience of visiting sacred sites, moving her attendees beyond their traditional environments and inviting them into a safe container, sharing the practices that have transformed her life in a way that allows her attendees to bring the transformation home, rather than just providing a short term escape.
Her first retreat made it clear that this was her path forward. “This is where I feel myself coming to life” Raya explains, “this is what I need to be doing.”
But something was still keeping Raya from her full expression in the world.
Facing Her Fears
Despite all of her inner shifts, Raya remained nervous about sharing this new piece of her life and her work with the larger world. Her explorations and learnings had given her small communities with whom she could be her full self, and that felt wonderful. Within the bubble of her blog and email list, as well as the people she had met on her various spiritual pursuits, she was comfortable with ‘coming out of the woo closet’.
But within her larger community, she remained quiet about all the changes that were taking place, even though she was bursting to share the life-changing experiences she was having behind the scenes.
“When I step back I knew it was silly, but with my core group of friends, family, and those I had known for years, I was still holding back. I wanted to drop all of that and be my highest self in every setting, even in the work I do in education.”
Raya knew that living fully and openly in her highest incarnation was the only way she could truly make the impact she was called to make in the world, help people be more authentic, and activate the highest and best out of students to truly shift the paradigm of education.
And that’s exactly the precipice Raya was standing on when she entered the Ascended Master Academy (AMA). She knew she was loving her work with Living In The Light, but she also knew deep down that there was more, without understanding what that “more” was.
Ready For More
Though Raya still wasn’t sure what she was going to be working on in terms of her business trajectory, she knew she wanted a space to activate her highest self. Raya deeply wanted to begin living from that self in every aspect of her life, to fully understand what it meant for her to fully show up as Raya Ma’at in the world, and to resonate at her highest frequency at all times.
“I knew that I needed to be in an intimate cohort where everyone was working toward activating their highest potential, to attract clients that deeply resonate with that work, and to bring forward whatever it was I am here to do, be, have and express. I wanted to more consistently be able to scribe and channel, to be clear, and to trust what I am bringing through is really coming from my highest self.”
Though Raya didn’t know exactly where AMA would lead, she knew that there was no more waiting for her. She didn’t know what that “more” was exactly, and she felt some hesitation over the sizeable investment that AMA entailed. Clearly, this was not a decision she could take lightly.
So, what finally made her take the leap?
The solidity only came when Raya made the journey to Egypt with Danielle in February 2020. It was this very trip that gave Raya, who until that point had only been known as Kandace, her new Light Being Incarnate name Raya Ma’at.
“It really hit me when we were in Egypt, which was life-changing. This is where my new name came through, I connected with past life memories and so much shifted. I knew that had clearly known Danielle in a past life I needed to continue this journey with her and Thoth.”
As if she needed another sign, one day during the trip Raya serendipitously stumbled into a group of other attendees who had already enrolled in AMA as they were meeting off to the side of the main group in a tucked-away location.
“I was guided there, somehow. I wondered why I was heading this way, climbing over things and going around corners and suddenly, I ran into the group. Danielle invited me to join them and… the rest is history.”
The serendipity of that occurrence was enough to put an end to her hesitation, and Raya enrolled in the next step on her journey without further hesitation, knowing she was on the exact right path.
The Final Piece Of The Puzzle
Raya shares that AMA immediately provided exactly what she was hoping for. The processes that she learned from Danielle of scribing through writing, meditation, and speaking were incredibly helpful. She also appreciated the opportunity to sit and practice these essential new skills for periods of time, providing her with a vital tool that she will carry with her forever.
“Being clear about how to connect to Thoth and his lineage took away all of the uncertainty about my connection. It was already there, and I now have the confidence to know who I am bringing through and who is with me. I can choose who I want to partner, match, resonate and work with. I really appreciate that and am still able to use this skill today.”
Another hugely powerful piece of the AMA puzzle was the dedicated creation retreats, which allowed Raya to create her body of work in a concentrated period with set daily hours focused on creation, scribing, and bringing through her wisdom. Much to Raya’s surprise, these focused hours brought through a whole new body of work called Vibratory Essence which she wasn’t expecting at all.
In her time since AMA, Raya has been focused on building out the elements of this unexpected body of work into a toolkit, course, and certification for others.
“By the time we got to the end of the program, I really felt like I had a pathway to have multiple streams of income so that I could live more freely.”
Though Raya loves her job, she dreams of no longer being tied down to trading time for money. Raya is clear that this new body of work born in AMA, in combination with her thriving retreat business, is part of her path to financial freedom. This will also provide Raya with the freedom to engage in one of her deepest loves, travel, giving her the ability to live and work from wherever she happens to be in the world.
New Possibilities
As she began to resonate at a much higher frequency through the transformation of AMA, Raya also found herself attracting brand new possibilities. Suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, opportunities were coming her way to share her work with the world. From leading women’s group sessions like Meditation 101, sound healing, and Instagram live interviews, Raya’s work and wisdom were finding a whole new audience.
The unscripted and impromptu nature of Instagram live interviews, in particular, helped offer Raya a powerful opportunity to push through some of those deeper ‘coming out of the woo closet’ fears, as she had to become comfortable trusting in what was going to come up to be shared during the broadcast.
Following AMA, Raya felt guided to offer another retreat, which was planned for March of 2020. After being pushed back and rescheduled several times during the COVID-19 Pandemic, her retreat shifted to run in August of 2021.
Originally Raya intended to keep the registration to the original group who had enrolled before the cancellation. But as others continued to express interest, Raya was guided to open registration once more. This leap of faith resulted in double the original enrollment (her largest group ever!), which Raya took to be a beautiful confirmation of her gifts and abilities to create success beyond her dreams.
She knows that all of this transformation stems from being willing to step out there, to be a little bolder. In doing so she has noticed a clear pattern of attracting an entirely different level of retreat participants, those who already exist at a higher level of vibration and who are further along on their own spiritual paths.
“I am bolder in sharing and putting myself out there. I can push past it and know that if people do not like me or do not resonate, that’s cool – because there is nothing bad that will happen to me.”
In fact, as Raya shares, the literal meaning of her new name encapsulates this new trust.
Raya means “light of the Divine” while Ma’at translates to “living in truth and balance in the world”, which Raya truly feels is a beautiful summary of her vibratory essence and her work.
Slaying The Fear Dragons – For Good
Even better, those lingering fears Raya had from her upbringing, of being attacked or killed for stepping into her beliefs finally dissipated.
“I know that that’s not going to happen now. I came here to be and live in the light…I don’t want to say I am totally fearless now, or that I never feel fears arise, but now when I feel those old fears returning I have the vibrational tools to remind myself why I am here and what I am meant to do.”
Another big change that came from AMA was guidance to uplevel her work to offer one on one sessions focused on spiritual hypnosis, where participants can explore current patterns, past lives and speak to their higher selves about those challenges, getting answers they have never been able to access before.
This one-on-one work is just the beginning, but Raya knows that the confidence and clarity she gained from AMA provided the catalyst to put herself out there into the world at this higher level, to experience her work resonating with a new audience.
“Meeting with the (AMA) group every week pushed me because I wanted to be able to show that I was doing the work, and not just paying to think about doing something different. I felt encouraged to step out there.”
Out of the woo closet….and into her power!
The impacts of Raya’s work with Danielle and Divine Transmissions have extended beyond her work with her retreat participants and one on one clients. Raya sees this impact in all areas of her life, especially her work in education, but says that it has changed all of her interactions.
In the realm of her professional work, she has been appointed by the Mayor of Ann Arbor to serve as Vice-Chair of the Diversity Equity and Inclusion inclusion task force has recorded videos to present to the City Council, and continues to find new confidence to speak on topics that would have previously made her uncomfortable, such as systemic racism and discrimination. She sees this new bravery as vital to her passion for creating safer spaces for everyone.
“I feel less closed up. I felt so bottled up before, and now I’m fully expressed regardless of the environment.“
She understands that before her work with Divine Transmissions she was holding back – even with topics she believes in deeply, like race, equity and education. Now she is willing to be bolder, to stand in her truth and speak from her highest vibration – and people are noticing!
Being able to call in and join with Thoth and her guides before leading meetings has helped Raya to be more authentic and to lead from a more grounded and centered space. She shares that she now receives emails from colleagues frequently that express appreciation for her facilitation.
When asked what she would share with someone new to Divine Transmissions who was considering stepping into working with Danielle, Thoth, and the Council, Raya did not hesitate to give an enthusiastic thumbs up.

In closing, Raya shared a heartfelt message for Danielle, Thoth, and the team, calling Danielle a “doula for birthing the highest expression of others in the world”
